Injectable Cosmetic Treatments
Neurotoxins and dermal fillers when used together perfectly complement each other to achieve a natural and rejuvenated look. Each has its own role in facial rejuvenation. Neurotoxins (Botox® and Xeomin®) relax dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repeated facial movements like squinting and frowning. While dermal fillers (Juvéderm® and Radiesse®) replace lost volume and help to sculpt youthful-looking contours and definition. Dermal fillers may also be used in lines that appear at rest. Combining neurotoxins and dermal fillers addresses multiple areas of the face simultaneously. Neurotoxins are typically used around the eyes and forehead, whereas dermal fillers are generally used on the middle and lower areas of the face.
Neurotoxins
Botox® and Xeomin® are neurotoxins that are commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that are caused by expression. Made from a purified protein, neurotoxins relax the muscles used to create facial wrinkles, giving a refreshed, younger look.

Questions
How do Neurotoxins work?
Frown lines form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions cause lasting frown lines. Neurotoxins block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions. By relaxing the muscles of expressions that are directly attached to the skin, neurotoxins allow the skin to rest and thereby heal from any lines that might have formed from repeated expression.
When will I see results from my neurotoxin treatment?
Results begin to appear within 2-5 days. By 2 weeks the full effect of the treatment is appreciated.
How long will my treatment last?
Typically neurotoxins last approximately 3-4 months. However, there are several factors that may influence metabolism, which in turn can affect the durability of neurotoxins. Some examples include certain medications, endocrine conditions, severe illness or surgery, smoking, significant weight loss and intense athletic training. Of note, neurotoxins may last up to 6 months in individuals who have had repeated treatments.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers restore the natural volume and contour of our youthful face by lifting hollows, reducing shadows, and filling lines that result from volume loss as we age. The most common areas treated with dermal fillers are the cheeks, the marionette lines (from corners of the mouth to jawline), the nasolabial folds (the crease that runs from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth), and in and around the lips.

Questions
How do facial fillers restore volume?
One of the best ways to rejuvenate the face is to restore volume to the cheeks using a volumizing filler such as Radiesse® or Voluma™. These fillers restore shape and balance by enhancing cheek fullness as well as lifting the corners of the mouth and jowls. Volumizing fillers can also be used to reverse marionette lines as well as to restore volume to hands.
What is the correct filler to restore the appearance around the mouth and lips?
There are several filler choices and great versatility in using fillers in and around the mouth area to create a natural look. Dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® Ultra Plus and Versa™ can be used to create an elegant look in lips that have lost their natural shape and volume. Regarding etched-in lines such as vertical lip lines and smile parentheses around the mouth, fillers that work best are Belotero® and Versa™.
How long does facial filler last?
Dermal filler results can be appreciated almost immediately with little or no downtime and last approximately 12 to 18 months.
