Neurotoxins and dermal fillers when used together perfectly complement each other to achieve a natural and rejuvenated look. Each has its own role in facial rejuvenation. Neurotoxins (Botox® and Xeomin®) relax dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repeated facial movements like squinting and frowning. While dermal fillers (Juvéderm® and Radiesse®) replace lost volume and help to sculpt youthful-looking contours and definition. Dermal fillers may also be used in lines that appear at rest. Combining neurotoxins and dermal fillers addresses multiple areas of the face simultaneously. Neurotoxins are typically used around the eyes and forehead, whereas dermal fillers are generally used on the middle and lower areas of the face.
Botox® and Xeomin® are neurotoxins that are commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that are caused by expression. Made from a purified protein, neurotoxins relax the muscles used to create facial wrinkles, giving a refreshed, younger look.
ThermiTight® is a safe, minimally invasive, non-surgical technique that utilizes..
Botox® Cosmetic is the first FDA-approved treatment to temporarily soften moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines, resulting in a rejuvenated look.
Xeomin® is a uniquely purified neurotoxin. Its manufacturing process isolates only the specific neurotoxin, containing no accessory proteins. Xeomin® is FDA-approved to temporarily treat the lines of facial expressions to create a softened and rejuvenated look.
Before and After
How do Neurotoxins work?
Frown lines form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions cause lasting frown lines. Neurotoxins block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions. By relaxing the muscles of expressions that are directly attached to the skin, neurotoxins allow the skin to rest and thereby heal from any lines that might have formed from repeated expression.
When will I see results from my neurotoxin treatment?
Results begin to appear within 2-5 days. By 2 weeks the full effect of the treatment is appreciated.
How long will my treatment last?
Typically neurotoxins last approximately 3-4 months. However, there are several factors that may influence metabolism, which in turn can affect the durability of neurotoxins. Some examples include certain medications, endocrine conditions, severe illness or surgery, smoking, significant weight loss and intense athletic training. Of note, neurotoxins may last up to 6 months in individuals who have had repeated treatments.
Dermal fillers restore the natural volume and contour of our youthful face by lifting hollows, reducing shadows, and filling lines that result from volume loss as we age. The most common areas treated with dermal fillers are the cheeks, the marionette lines (from corners of the mouth to jawline), the nasolabial folds (the crease that runs from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth), and in and around the lips.
Juvéderm® Voluma™ is a volumizing hyaluronic acid gel filler used to correct volume loss and facial folds. Through nonsurgical injections, Juvéderm® Voluma™ is specifically designed to add fullness to the cheeks and midface area.
Radiesse® is a volumizing dermal filler that is used for replacing volume loss in the cheeks and smoothing moderate to severe facial folds, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Radiesse® is also used for correcting volume loss in the back of the hands to help complete your aesthetic look for face and hands.
Versa™ is a versatile hyaluronic acid filler that can be used to treat several different areas including nasolabial folds, as well as in and around lips to enhance and/or replace lost volume for complete facial rejuvenation. Versa™ is used similarly to Juvéderm® Ultra Plus except that there is less swelling associated with treatment.
Belotero® is a very flexible, lightweight hyaluronic acid filler that is perfectly suited for superficial injections of fine lines such as vertical lip lines as well as other fine lines of the lower face.
Before and After
How do facial fillers restore volume?
One of the best ways to rejuvenate the face is to restore volume to the cheeks using a volumizing filler such as Radiesse® or Voluma™. These fillers restore shape and balance by enhancing cheek fullness as well as lifting the corners of the mouth and jowls. Volumizing fillers can also be used to reverse marionette lines as well as to restore volume to hands.
What is the correct filler to restore the appearance around the mouth and lips?
There are several filler choices and great versatility in using fillers in and around the mouth area to create a natural look. Dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® Ultra Plus and Versa™ can be used to create an elegant look in lips that have lost their natural shape and volume. Regarding etched-in lines such as vertical lip lines and smile parentheses around the mouth, fillers that work best are Belotero® and Versa™.
How long does facial filler last?
Dermal filler results can be appreciated almost immediately with little or no downtime and last approximately 12 to 18 months.
